Meet James Davies
I’m James Davies – a Cardiff boy living in Worcester, a proud dad to a beautiful little girl, and someone who has learned the hard way that wellbeing isn’t optional. It’s the foundation for everything.
For more than twenty years, rugby was my anchor. It gave me structure, purpose, and a community. When I finally became too old to play, life filled the space quickly: full‑time work, marriage, responsibilities. I didn’t replace rugby with anything meaningful, and slowly my fitness slipped. My weight climbed, and by 2020 I was the heaviest I had ever been.
Covid hit me hard in 2021. Many people had it far worse, but for me it was a wake‑up call. I lost some weight afterwards, but without a real plan or mindset shift, it came back. I was stuck in a cycle of short bursts of effort followed by long periods of drift.
Then 2022 arrived, and everything changed at once. Both of my parents passed away within months of each other. My marriage broke down. My daughter and I saw less of each other than we ever had before. I know this can sound like a pity party, but it isn’t. It’s simply the truth of what happened, and more importantly, what I chose to do next.
Because instead of staying down, I started to rebuild.
I became unwell shortly after, and months of tests and appointments forced me to slow down again and reassess everything. When I eventually came out the other side, I made a conscious decision: my recovery wouldn’t just be physical. It would be emotional, mental, and lifestyle‑based.
Emotional wellbeing became the cornerstone of everything I do.
I worked on resilience, boundaries, stress management, and understanding myself properly. I’m now self‑employed, which brings its own pressures, but it also gives me the flexibility to prioritise my wellbeing. That balance has given me the tools to handle life’s challenges without losing myself again.
From that mindset shift came action:
I completed my first HYROX
Ran a 10km
Walked 100km
Signed up for two more HYROX events this year
Set long‑term endurance goals for the next few years
I’m right at the beginning of this journey, but it’s a journey built on discipline, consistency, and emotional strength and not quick fixes.
This website is where I document it all: the training, the progress, the setbacks, the mindset work, and the lessons. It keeps me accountable, and it shows my daughter that no matter what life throws at you, you can rebuild with purpose, resilience, and pride.
Cardiff shaped me.
My daughter motivates me.
Worcester is where I grow.
